Guest Post: Bumblesbounc On A Memorable Villain

When Shawn first brought up this topic, my mind went to the usual list of suspects, people like the Joker. After spending a few minutes in thought, however, I decided to go back into Mr. Peabody’s Way-Back Machine to one of my favorite villains of all time, Welhemina W. Witchiepoo.
Many of you reading this are probably looking quite puzzled and have already switched tabs to Google search, but Witchiepoo was the wonderful fail witch of the 1960’s show H. R. Pufnstuf. Her goal was simple, to get the Freddy magic flute from Jimmy, the human boy who stumbled on Living Island (everything is alive, the trees, rocks, everything, hence the name) after hopping aboard a strange boat, owned by none other than Witchiepoo. After he lands, he is befriended by the Mayor, H. R. Pufnstuf. It was your typical, if it can go wrong it will go wrong, show, but it was also one of the leaders into the highly colorful, full sized costume, well, groovy shows.
Witchiepoo had her own ever fail accomplices such as Stupid Bat and Seymour Spider, who aided her in messing up every opportunity to get the flute. Riding around on Vroom Broom, an interesting looking vehicle, she never gave up her attempts. Today she is remembered as one of the most likable villain’s in children’s cartoons, at least by me.
